Even though it’s Texas, the winter doldrums still strike. Nature is mostly brown and/or dead. The eyes ache for color and the mind seeks inspiration. I have the solution! Go to the New Beginnings art exhibit in Lewisville, Texas. Continue reading Opening Reception: New Beginnings
Tore Bellis and I had so much fun with the Poodle and Bear photo shoot for the Call of the Wild art exhibit. It was inevitable that the enthusiasm would pour into other creative possibilities.
Introducing… Poodle Lifestyle magazine! Continue reading Premier issue of Poodle Lifestyle Magazine!
I met Jerry McKay (JAM), a member of the Visual Art League, in the first member meeting I attended. She was very instrumental in explaining how art submissions work and it’s because of her I hit the ground running. JAM has an art piece in the Day of the Dead exhibit that is on display now through November 27th. I got to ask JAM about the piece. It’s a very touching and relatable story. She agreed to share the story in my blog, along with her art piece. Continue reading Meet Guest Blogger, Jerry McKay, a member of the Visual Art League of Lewisville

I was encouraged to submit additional art pieces in the “Self Portrait” exhibit at the MCL Grand Theater in Lewisville. It took me awhile to come up with my first submission, “Iterations”. Coming up with additional pieces seemed daunting. But I have a saying: if you’re handed a piece of meat are you going to cook it? Translation: if you’re given an opportunity are you going to take advantage of it or let it go to waste? I’m not only going to cook it, I’ll make multiple meals out of it! Visit the blog to see my additional submissions. Continue reading Additional photos by Denise Holguin on exhibit at the MCL Grand Theater in Lewisville!
“Iterations” is my debut art piece that is on exhibit at the MCL Grand through the Visual Art League of Lewisville.
The theme for the exhibit is “Self-Portrait”. Not only was I the photographer but I was also the model. Very tricky – especially when I was turning as green as the walls from sitting upside down!
Go see the art piece in person! It’s on exhibit from August 31 – October 30, 2021. Look for the North Display Case. Continue reading “Iterations” an original art piece by Denise Holguin is on exhibition!
I unlocked one of life’s greatest mysteries.
I have been wondering how individuals get their art displayed in exhibitions.
The answer is stunningly easier than I ever fathomed: Join an art league!
When I attended the first meeting of the Visual Art League of Lewisville, themes were reviewed and I sat with a bewildered look on my face. Are there fees? Our art gets displayed…just like that? How many pieces of art can we submit? Does the art have to be hung on a wall?
What strange, mythical world did I stumble in to and how am I fortunate enough to be permitted to join?
I asked questions. And it’s true. Art gets displayed…just like that! Continue reading I joined the Visual Art League of Lewisville
