I just completed a new art piece, “Butterfly wings”.
Artist’s Statement:
Little tentative one, make haste and take flight with your shiny, gilded wings. While you may damage the wings along your journey you have what it takes to be courageous as a lion yet delicate and beautiful as a rose. Continue reading Little bashful one, make haste and take flight
“Iterations” is my debut art piece that is on exhibit at the MCL Grand through the Visual Art League of Lewisville.
The theme for the exhibit is “Self-Portrait”. Not only was I the photographer but I was also the model. Very tricky – especially when I was turning as green as the walls from sitting upside down!
Go see the art piece in person! It’s on exhibit from August 31 – October 30, 2021. Look for the North Display Case. Continue reading “Iterations” an original art piece by Denise Holguin is on exhibition!
I unlocked one of life’s greatest mysteries.
I have been wondering how individuals get their art displayed in exhibitions.
The answer is stunningly easier than I ever fathomed: Join an art league!
When I attended the first meeting of the Visual Art League of Lewisville, themes were reviewed and I sat with a bewildered look on my face. Are there fees? Our art gets displayed…just like that? How many pieces of art can we submit? Does the art have to be hung on a wall?
What strange, mythical world did I stumble in to and how am I fortunate enough to be permitted to join?
I asked questions. And it’s true. Art gets displayed…just like that! Continue reading I joined the Visual Art League of Lewisville
Just recently I was rummaging through my garage and came upon a bucket of the metal junk I had apparently forgotten to discard. With the launch of Empirical Whimsy, you can imagine my excitement. Rediscovered objects!
The s-hook used in this piece is one of the objects removed from the streets of Dallas. If you want a visual it’s the Walnut Hill / I-35 area of town, near liquor stores and other establishments.
I am absolutely thrilled to have turned pieces of junk into lemonade. Continue reading Resilience
I was imbibing a Starbucks Java Chip Frappuccino with my friend, Tore Bellis, last Fall. That’s when the spark of creativity hit me: I want to write for Creative Machine Embroidery!
And so I did. Continue reading I am published in Creative Machine Embroidery
Last year my friend Tore Bellis and I took a downtown Dallas walking tour with Jay Cantrell. We started at Pegasus Plaza and admired The Adolphus. I told Tore that someday I hoped to stay there—just for one night. My … Continue reading The Adolphus Hotel sets the standard
Today is my 17 year work anniversary. I celebrated by writing thank you cards to customers ordering my newest design collection, Coffee & Tea by Blue Hair Girl. Among the Dale Carnegie principles I have employed over the years: “Count your blessings – not your troubles”, “do your very best” and “show sincere and honest appreciation”.
