When I go on nature preserve adventures, I like to get in the thick of the action – among the bushes and tall grasses. My most recent trip was no exception. After all, there are insects and bugs to discover! It wasn’t until the following day that I noticed I am covered in bites! On the bright side I have nice photos to prove my efforts weren’t in vain.
The photo below was taken with my emergency camera – the Canon G11. While there are several newer models it’s still a very good camera.
I got lucky with the photograph below. The blue sky made a nice background.
I happened to look down and found this beetle.
A closer view. It was during this process that I realized a macro lens would be quite useful.
All of these photos were taken within feet of each other. You just have to quietly observe your surroundings to discover something interesting. And beware of the chiggers!

Notes: Use the resources you have available. Even if you don’t have a macro lens, with a steady hand and patience, you can capture great scenes in nature. Prove it can be done!
