As we wrap up the final days of Fresh Ideas 2023, I thought I’d share a positive moment that occurred days before the show began.
When I dropped off my art, Inexplicable, on set-up day, another piece of art caught my eye. It looked like something I would make (but with a cleaner aesthetic). It had a vintage photo incorporated into the piece. (We don’t receive many art pieces with vintage photos.)
Completely thrown off, I asked the set-up crew for details. We looked at the back of the piece and the person has my first name. “Denise Lindgren”.
Jolted yet again, I exclaimed, “This is my new best friend. I must meet her at the opening reception!”
The Fresh Ideas 2023 reception was a big success with crowds of artists and guests and unfortunately, I didn’t get to meet Denise.
I resorted to the next best thing. I stalked her on Instagram.
It was a risk. I don’t know anything about the woman – is she friendly? Will she think I’m a lunatic? Will she pat me on my head when I proclaim my admiration for her art with simple words of “that’s nice!” and send me on my way?
But I boldly went for it. I reached out to her and just as my instinct had guided me, she is a delight. We became instant friends on Instagram.
We also decided to meet up for dinner – what I like to call, a Denise Convention. It’s not often you meet someone with your name, who has similar interests and creates similar art. (If you are reading this, have similar interests and your name is Denise, you too can join the Denise Convention. But there will be a test and your birth certificate will be required.)
All kidding aside, when you join the Visual Art League of Lewisville, you have an opportunity to make friends. Results will vary if they have your name, but it sure is an inexplicable moment when it happens!
