I’ve been learning how to use Adobe Illustrator and discovered free templates with the font packs. I have no vision so the templates were especially handy to see what could be done with the fonts. Here’s a glimpse of the assortment of templates from the Adobe website.
I downloaded the Typography Welcome Pack and used the purple sample shown below. I had easy success, since all I had to do was change the text. But anyone can do that – I wanted to learn more – so I created the design from scratch.
The end result is shown below. Mine is a variation of the original template in part because I wanted to have my own flair and I couldn’t recreate the flourishes! I sent the image to my friend Tore with no context. His reply was, ‘wait, what?’ That was the reaction I was aiming for and hopefully you have the same reaction.
I’ve created a new category on my blog called Zig Zag that will encompass similar creations. It’s the perfect outlet for the ideas I have amassed that had no way of being expressed until now. It won’t be perfect but it will be fun. And I am aiming for the ‘wait, what?’ type of reaction. I’ll continue with my photography/nature/miniatures blog posts while mixing in some of the Zig Zag posts for variety.
