It’s a mad world when my art is scattered around the metroplex in various art exhibits. I am grateful to have these opportunities that have all originated from a decision to join the Visual Art League of Lewisville (VAL). By attending VAL meetings, I met guest speaker, Justine Wollaston Scott, who organizes art exhibits at the Pilot Point Coffee House (among her many talents!)
A selection of my art is on display in Justine’s latest exhibit, “Autumn’s Palette” at the Pilot Point Coffee House, starting September 29th – mid-November.
Title: Find solace in the little things
Medium: Mixed media
Dimensions: 16 ½” wide x 13 ¾” tall
Artist’s Statement: We can find solace in people, memories and activities that make us happy.

About the piece: Earlier this year I returned home from a disappointing experience but didn’t want my Saturday art day ruined. As a mental experiment, I wrote the word “solace” on tracing paper again and again… and again.
I became quite engrossed in the activity and I was off to the races.
I excitedly put bits and bobbles together and the art piece made itself. (I am addicted to the creative process. Art seemingly comes together on its own.)
Explanation of Objects and Meaning:
The doll legs are walking on a path searching for solace. The dog is helping in the search. Along the way there’s a springy, happy duck and lots of bright happy colors.
Solace can be found everywhere!
The pieces are mostly found objects:
Dog keychain: found in a Kroger parking lot. I questioned my sanity for taking it home but I thought it may be useful.
Orange safety barrier fencing: found the scrap on a sidewalk in my neighborhood. I was power walking and it struck me as having potential.
Duck: found on January 1st, 2023 in downtown Dallas. Tore and I were on our first photography adventure of the New Year.

Doll legs: My mom texted me with a photo of a run over doll and the words, “do you want this?” I think we all know the answer is always… YES.
Spring attached to duck: Found on a street or parking lot somewhere. It was artistically flattened— I had to take it home. It was pretty!
