What motivates you, Michelle?

Today’s guest writer is one of my best friends I’ve known for over 15 years.  We are polar opposites in terms of personality – she’s boisterous and fun while I’m the quiet, serious one. But I think that’s why we get along so well.

My greatest motivators in life are my faith and my family.  I am a Catholic Christian, and when I think of the love that Christ has for me, I want to return Him love for love.  He has given Himself completely to me to save me and bring me to Himself.  I want to generously respond by spending time with Him in conversation and by trying to do things that will please Him, just as I would nurture an earthly relationship.  I also want to share His love with others.  If I am joyful, kind, generous, and at peace in my soul, no matter what is going on around me, I can show others the happy effects of a living faith.

My husband and children motivate me because I often see them sacrificing their own time and desires in order to help one another or to contribute to the good of the family.  This inspires me to imitate their example by giving up my selfish or disordered tendencies for the sake of their happiness.  And, when they are having a rough day, many times because of a previous bad example on my part, I am inspired to do better in the future in order to help them deal with life’s problems in a more calm, positive, or productive way.

I have one more What Motivates You? entry for next week. As more come in I’ll resume the series.

I’m looking for someone to volunteer to translate Grandma’s video.  Let me know if you can commit.
