I had planned on taking the easy way out with this photo. The original title was going to be Beetle. But I felt guilty for being lazy so I did a Google and Wikipedia search. This is a Cottonwood Borer. It is a wood borer—it uses trees as its host to lay eggs. It takes two years for the larvae to mature. The larvae pupate and once metamorphosis happens, they eat their way out of the tree. And I thought it was just interesting for being a black and white speckled beetle.
